A LONG DRIVE AND A WEE DRAM
Golf and Whisky Tour
9 Days
 cotland
means many things to many people. To some, it is the images of kilts,
bagpipes, and ‘Braveheart’. To others, it is the hallowed home of
golf and of the finest, smoothest whiskies. Experience two of the
most famous icons Scotland has to offer, at the same time. Sample
the hospitality and history for which Scotland is famous,
worldwide. Breathe in, take a deep breath of fresh air, and go
forth.
Day 1 - Departure
Depart from your home destination.
(Airport transfer and/or airfare can be added for additional cost*)
Day 2 – Arrival in Scotland and Relaxation As
you arrive in the beautiful and diverse “Granite City” of Aberdeen,
Scotland, you will realize that you are a world away. One cannot
escape the sea here, not since it was founded as a Royal Burgh back in
1124. The influence of the harbor is everywhere. Your personal
chauffeur will whisk you off to your 5-star Golf Resort
Hotel. After your flight(s) here, take the remainder of the
evening to relax, have a look around, and maybe take in a quaint Olde
Worlde pub where you'll quickly come to know the wonderful people of
Scotland.
Day 3 – First Round of Golf and Distillery
Let the golf begin! Spend the morning on one of Scotland’s most
beautiful and challenging golf courses, the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club
(transport to and from provided). Royal Aberdeen, founded in 1780 and
the sixth oldest course in the world, has an outward nine holes known
to be some of the finest in the world. At 6,415 yards and par 70, this
course will challenge the best. In the afternoon, you will be driven to
visit the Royal Lochnagar Distillery. (Don’t worry about the
driving – we’ll take care of it for you so that you can enjoy the
distillery’s superior Scottish whiskies.)
Day 4 – Second Round of Golf
Relax in the morning and enjoy a quiet breakfast. Then you’re off
to crush the ball at the Murcar Golf Club (transport to and from
provided.) The Murcar links course has been described by TV
commentator and former Ryder Cup Player, Peter Alliss, as “A hidden
gem”. With a USGA slope rating of 136, it’s sure to tease and
test. Later in the evening, we’ve arranged for you to dine at one of
Scotland’s finest 5-star restaurants.
Day 5 – Third Round of Golf and Travel to Elgin
Your third round of golf will be at the Cruden Bay Golf Club (transport
to and from provided), one of the best links courses in Scotland, and
last year was placed at No. 52 in the world by "Golf Magazine". This
afternoon, you will travel by train, first class, to the beautiful city
of Elgin, famous for its cathedral dating back to at least 1224.
Arrive at your 5-star hotel, relax, and have a look around Elgin to
discover some of its many fine restaurants and shops.
Day 6 – Off to the Whisky Trail
The morning is yours. Relax, lounge, or take a stroll through
Elgin. After lunch at the hotel’s contemporary restaurant, you’ll
be heading off to the world famous Whisky Trail, driven by chauffeured
limousine. (After all, the only “drinking and driving” we want you to
do is enjoying whisky and playing golf). The Whisky Trail offers
many distilleries to visit, but you’ll experience only the very best
- the 5-star whisky distilleries of Glen Grant, Cardhu,
Glenlivet, Speyside Cooperage, and Strathisla.
Day 7 – St. Andrews
Today, you’re off to the royal and ancient home of golf, St.
Andrew’s. Travel by first class train from Elgin to the Kingdom
of Fife and the ancient city of St. Andrews. The rest of the day,
relax with a leisurely lunch, do a bit of sightseeing, and visit the
British Golf Museum. If you find the time, explore the 8,000 year old
history of St. Andrews with its cathedral that dates back to the early
13th century. Your accommodation is a beautiful local 4-star hotel near
the courses. Get a good night’s rest – for tomorrow, you golf!
Day 8 – Golf at St. Andrews
Today, you join the elite group who have golfed the world famous St.
Andrew’s Golf Course! Depending on skill and availability, you
will golf on one of St. Andrew’s six magnificent links style courses.
(Just beware the Scottish breezes.) Enjoy your last evening in Scotland
by celebrating, reflecting or, as the Scots would do, regale others
with tales from your day on the infamous course. May we suggest
elegant dining in one of Fife’s many restaurants, or perhaps a casual
night at a local pub?
Day 9 – Return to Aberdeen and Flight Home
Travel by first class train to Aberdeen airport. Depart for home.
(Airport transfers and airfare can be arranged*.)
